Exploring the peninsula area of the Central Coast offers many hidden delights. We checked out Ettalong Beach Foreshore area on the recommendation of friends and it didn’t disappoint. What a fantastic place to spend time.
Upgraded in 2014 by Gosford City Council, the result of the $5 million overhaul is a well-planned, multi-use area for visitors of all ages to enjoy. A highlight of visiting here is enjoying the water views; with sail boats bobbing in the water, a keen fisherman hoping to get a nibble on his line and the local ferry zipping around it is a pleasant place to spend time.
If you are keen to dip your toes in the water, access is directly beside the Box on the Water restaurant.
The shallow water of the foreshore extends out for several metres before dropping off, allowing kids and in particular toddlers and pre-schoolers the fun of playing in the sand and wading in the water protected from the big waves you will find at a beach.
The Central Coast Weekender pre-schoolers loved it here and we spent a few hours splashing about. Adults will enjoy swimming here too, just head out to where the water deepens or bring your SUP or kayak to experience the water from a different perspective.
A brand new playground is installed on the foreshore. Some of the equipment surfaces are dark coloured and with no shade covering the area, we found it to be hot for kids to play on, particularly the slide.
There is a unisex toilet beside The Box on the Water restaurant as well as handy bike racks and a water refill station. If you fancy a sausage sizzle for lunch, free BBQ’s for visitors can be found to the south of the playground.
Nothing like ice-cream or hot chips when you are visiting the water and at Ettalong Beach foreshore area the Outside the Box kiosk is worth a visit. You will find a neat little window to place your order and a number of undercover picnic benches to use whilst you enjoy it.
Central Coast Weekender loved the yummy house-made muffins; it was very hard not to go back for a second one!
The Box on the Water restaurant sit directly overlooking the foreshore, with a menu to make your mouth water, Central Coast Weekender will be back to enjoy a meal and drink here very soon. In particular, the Sunset Sips looks very inviting, offering a bar menu and drinks between 3pm-6pm, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The Ettalong Foreshore Pathway is a 7.5km shared path that will take you around to the Peninsula Recreational Prescient, bring your bike and ride or walk as far as you like.
Across the road is Ettalong Beach Club, why not enjoy lunch or dinner there then walk along the foreshore pathway afterwards

You will find the foreshore area on The Esplanade, Ettalong Beach. On street parking is available in a number of designated spaces.
